The Wisconsin Upside Down Foundation, the Knights of Columbus, and Lake Country Fine Arts in Hartland have paired together to offer an adaptive art classes to students with Down syndrome at Lake Country Fine Arts. The program was the brain child of Robbin Lyons, board president and Marlene Millevolte an artist instructor, at Lake Country Fine Arts.
“Adaptive arts is very therapeutic on many levels,” said Millevolte. “As well as offering a great social opportunity for our students.” The hope is to create a program that can be started in other communities as well.
Classes run for 12 weeks starting in February. Cost per students is only $50 because Wisconsin Upside Down is covering the rest. There are full scholarships available if this cost presents hardship. Many thanks to the Lake Country Women’s Club for their donation of $500 to help make this class possible. Students spend weeks creating sculptures and then glaze after they have been fired.
